Walking in and around Bad Breisig
Bad Breisig is the ideal starting point for walks in the countryside. As well as a number of circular routes in the Bad Breisig area, there are three long-distance footpaths within easy reach: The Rheinburgenweg ('Rhine Castles Route') on the left bank of the Rhine, the Rheinsteig on the right bank and the Rotweinwanderweg ('Red Wine Trail') in the Ahr Valley.

Circular routes around Bad Breisig and the Mönchsheide plateau

The circular routes are marked by signs showing black numbers on a yellow background.
Many of the footpaths run through the popular Mönchsheide plateau in the woodland above Bad Breisig. The Mönchsheide is a superb area for longer walks. Most of the routes are level, and there are opportunities to stop off at popular sites such as the Waldlehrpfad (Woodland discovery trail), the 'Bäume des Jahres' (Trees of the Year) and 'Auf dem Hahn', a Celtic hilltop settlement.
There are a total of ten waymarked trails around Breisig. The distances range from 3 km to 15 km. The slopes vary from slight to difficult.
Walking maps showing the routes and a description of each are available from the Tourist Information Office in Bad Breisig.

Celtic hilltop settlements

There are three Celtic hilltop settlements along the Rheinhöhenweg in the Bad Breisig/Brohl area: 'Auf dem Hahn', 'Reuterslei' (both in Bad Breisig) and 'Dickberg' (Brohl-Lützing).
