Bad Breisig Puppenmuseum (Dolls' Museum)

Altes Rathaus - Puppenmuseum Innenansicht des Puppenmuseums

The Altes Rathaus (old town hall) was built in 1873/1874 at Koblenzer Straße 31. It was used as the offices of the municipal authorities.

There is a striking neo-classical column in front of the entrance. An extension was built in 1905 to provide more office space for the municipal authorities. In 1988, the local authority moved to newly acquired office premises in Bachstraße. The Altes Rathaus was bought in the same year by Herr und Frau Ringel, who used it to open a dolls' museum, the Puppenmuseum.

The collection has now grown to around 400 dolls, some dating from the second half of the 19th century. In the 19th century, dolls were very expensive and difficult to make. As in the present day, the most popular were babies and play dolls. At the time, however, they were so expensive that you wouldn't have found one in every child's bedroom. As soon as you enter the Puppenmuseum, you are immersed in a miniature world of dolls' houses and kitchens, lace costumes and huge dolls' eyes. It's a great spot to rediscover the playmates from your own childhood.
Most of the dolls in the collection date back to the period between 1860 and 1920.
